Music Video for Steve Edwards – Shot on Super 16mm
I directed this intimate, minimalist music video for Steve Edwards, following the success of his Radio 2 hit — the station’s most played single at the time.
We aimed to capture the emotional tone of the track — a raw sense of frustration and a deep yearning for freedom — through a simple yet evocative visual approach. The concept centred on stillness and subtle movement, allowing the performance and emotion to take centre stage.
Shot on Super 16mm film to evoke a timeless, textured aesthetic, the project was brought to life by an exceptional team, including acclaimed promo cinematographer Will Bex and highly talented colourist Denny Cooper.
Music Video for Steve Edwards – Shot on Super 16mm in B&W
I directed this black-and-white music video for Steve Edwards, capturing a whimsical and nostalgic visual style on Super 16mm film. Shot across various London locations, the production was logistically complex but rewarding — weaving emotion and character into every scene.
As a subtle homage to Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless (À bout de souffle), the video includes a tongue-in-cheek nod to French New Wave cinema, blending classic references with modern storytelling.
The project was beautifully shot by acclaimed TV drama cinematographer Stuart Biddlecombe, whose work brought cinematic texture and nuance to every frame.
Music Video for Esoterica – Shot on Digital Panasonic Varicam
I directed this music promo for Esoterica with sponsorship from Panasonic, using the Varicam to showcase its low-light capabilities.
To echo the song’s themes of entrapment and psychological tension, we filmed in Chislehurst Caves — a site steeped in history, from ancient rituals to WWII air raid shelters.
With a cast of actors and an intentionally ambiguous narrative, the video blends myth, memory, and mood — pushing the Varicam’s performance in near-total darkness.
